Company Background

Founded in November 2011 by Jomode Elie Getty in Sebha, Libya, Murzuq Oil is a privately held Libyan company operating independently of both the Libyan government and the National Oil Corporation (NOC Libya).

The company currently oversees five subsidiaries and maintains no affiliation with the state-owned Murzuq Oil Service, which was established by NOC Libya in London in 2021.

Strategic Acquisitions and Projects

• 2012–2014: Murzuq Oil submitted an offer to acquire the Petit-Couronne refinery (formerly operated by Petroplus) in France.
   
• Since 2017: The company has been actively pursuing the acquisition of a refinery in the United States, with formal negotiations commencing in 2019

Legal Considerations

Libya's complex political environment—marked by dual governments, two national armies, two central banks, and the presence of 17 international private military groups—has significantly compromised the rule of law. In response:

• Murzuq Oil has initiated legal proceedings against Murzuq Oil London and NOC Libya, with actions filed in Libya (June 2022) and the United States (2023).
